site was set up at the beginning of 2003 for one reason
only. To fight a CPZ that was going to be imposed in my own
road. The road was quiet and has never had parking problems.
I found that I was not the only outraged resident and that
all of my neighbours felt the same way. I spoke to residents
from other roads and found that apart from residents in
roads that really do have parking problems, they also had a
similar view. So many felt that there was nothing we could do
about it and that the council run the borough and that's
that. I have always felt that battles can be won and apathy is our biggest problem. I truly believe
that this is what organisations rely on to pass their
unwanted schemes. They also hope that if you protest they
will simply grind you down over time. Under these
circumstances you just have to hang on in there. Otherwise
their actions will affect your lives from that moment on.
I hope that this
site helped clarify the CPZ issue to those who never
received a proposal and to those who did not have the time
to fully go through the original long winded literature. I
hope it inspired a community feeling that we are all
together in this. I also hope that it gave a focus to the
issue where residents could come together and discuss
their ideas.
From the e-mails I have received
as the webmaster, I have had almost unanimous support for the
site and those few that were not so sure are those
that had genuine parking problems that wanted at least
something.
I think the site was misinterpreted for a while. There are a
great many roads out of the 90 or so proposed, that
did not need any scheme and it is those that needed help. It
was never intended to take away schemes from residents who
need control. It was also found that those people didn't
actually want a CPZ but something else of their choosing. A
webmasters foreword was added to help clarify this.
Well we've overturned the CPZ and choice is what we will now
get and I hope this site along with all of the many, many,
many tireless campaigners have helped make a difference.
This site will continue on in many new forms for this town
if the people want it to. The front page
will always be held for our greatest concern but we can now
relax and start having fun too.
At the very least there are a
great many new friendships formed since the start of all
this.
