I would like to put a point, which may already have been made. I missed the lady calling last night as I had a problem with my intruder alarm. I live in Lichfield Road which is only five minutes from the station. I know that at the top of the road and in Colchester they do park all day and that must annoy the residents in that area. I do agree though that residents should not have to pay to park near their own homes. The car park by Colchester Road, which is quite ample in size was closed, as I understand it, because no one wanted to pay the £1 per day to park there because it was free to park in Lichfield, Tolcarne or Colchester. It then became a private car park owned by the business attached to it. Could it be put the the business there that they lease back part of the car park to the Council so that those commuters who wish to park near the station can use it? The entrance at the back in Colchester also looks like it needs a bit of a facelift. My real point is that to go into town i.e. zone 1 it costs £7.40 from Northwood Hills return or a little less on a travel card. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to pay the Congestion Charge, than driving to and travelling from Northwood Hills?? The Council seem to be using the Congestion Charge as another argument for this zone, as you say it is an unknown quantity and it should be the ‘proof of the pudding’ until we know how it pans out.
