In light of the overwhelming responses from the residents of numerous roads, I have e-mailed Cabinet member Mr Heywood and asked him to restore my faith in Democracy and listen to the voice of the people. Am I being over optimistic ?! Does anyone believe in democracy any more ? Just remember this scheme when the local council elections come round again. If you don,t bother to turn out and vote (only 30% of people did last time)you can expect plenty more situations like this in the future. If you take the time to vote the councillors will realise that they might well be voted out (and hence lose their job)if they don't listen to the residents. Then they are more likely to take our views into account in future. Remember the Quote :- "The people get the Government they deserve" The council is relying on apathy in situations like this. If you don't bother to respond (phone/letter/e-mail) then they will impose their schemes on you regardless of your views. Don't take it lying down !! They are your councillors, voted for by the residents, to represent the residents. Let them know your views. Then use the only option that is open to you in a democracy - YOUR VOTE
